AES002 WHAT

KBP has a very interesting way of “teaching students” so on the 19th of July 2024 a simulation was held so new students are able to understand and get used to the ways of KBP. This simulation involved observing various professions while we walked from Taman Lansia to Taman Musik. Our team, which consisted of 4 people, focused on Gojek or Ojol riders which are riders for a motorcycle based service that people can use to get from point A to B similar to Ubers or Taxis.

From our observation we have found out that most of the motorcycles used by Gojek or Ojol drivers are gas powered. We have seen a few electric powered motorcycles but compared to the amount of gas powered motorcycles we found, it doesn't really compare. Almost all of the motorcycles used by them are also scooters like the Honda Vario or the Honda Beat which is a given because scooters are well known for their effectiveness in urban environments.

One issue we encountered while observing these guys was the condition or even the lack of helmets for passengers carried by some riders. Although this might be a small portion of all riders, safety must be a number one priority on the road especially on a motorcycle. Examples of helmets in unwanted conditions are: broken or non-existent helmet strap, missing helmet helmet visor or the helmet just missing. We also observed that a lot of the riders wear sandals or nothing at all which can also be seen as a safety risk.

Preparing for weather conditions is another important consideration especially during the rainy season. Every Gojek or Ojol rider must always carry 2 raincoats, one for the rider and one for the passenger. This is an issue I sometimes encounter myself and how annoying it is to be soaked in rain water, this is the exact reason why I started to bring my own rain jacket but that is beside the point. Carrying an extra raincoat ensures a more comfortable experience for the passenger.

Another is the position of the rider while transporting a passenger. From my experience this happens way too often and that is the Gojek or Ojol rider sitting too far back which is uncomfortable, decreases the acceleration of the bike and it could also have a risk of the passenger falling off the motorcycle completely. This also perfectly transitions to our next point which is concerning safety. Prioritizing passenger safety is paramount, riders should never risk the safety of a passenger just to save a little bit of time.

In our discussion we also talked about how a rider should interact with a passenger like If route changes or deviations are needed, riders should seek permission from the passenger first and after a ride, a simple “Thank you” or being a good person overall goes a long way in leaving a good impression.

And that is pretty much all of the core stuff we have decided to put in our brochure which we made on the next day on the 20th of July 2024. If ya wanna know the WHY, WHO, or the HOW of the project don’t forget to check out the other essays that the members of our team have made. ;)
