So anyway, this week on the 13th of August, I went into the first cosplay event I've ever attended. Friend of mine from middle school which I'm pretty close to told me that he's going to the event a day before the event, and I'm actually kind of interested for some reasons. I asked him if it's okay to go with him and a bunch of other friends from middle school. We were waiting for my friend's cousin for an hour after the event started, then we decided to pick him up at the supermarket on the way to the event location, which is Kiara Artha Park, located at around the Northeast of Bandung city. When we arrived at the park, the sky is still drizzling a little bit, and puddles were everywhere. The cost for one ticket is very cheap (Rp10k), so we decided to pay the ticket for each with our own money. Admittedly, my friends and I were pretty nervous to ask any of the cosplayer to take a picture with them, so we kind of just strolled around the park once before actually doing something. I was the one who have the guts to take the first step, which is just asking one of the cosplayer to take a picture with me.
I'm not very used at interacting with stranger, let alone asking a picture with them; but I thought to myself "What is the point of attending this event if we are just... observing people with funny costumes of recognizable characters!" So if I didn't take that first step, I'm afraid that nobody would, and the activity would just be utterly counter-productive for us, which is something I definitely will regret it later in the future. Silly me approached the first cosplayer I want to take a pic with three times, I just couldn't help but feel immensely nervous about it. It went pretty well after I took that first step, I successfully motivated the others (except the twin) to take at least one picture with any cosplayer of their choice. Nothing much happened after that; me and my friend who told me about the event sang along the opening of the anime "One Piece" with the crowd there, ate takoyaki, rode an electric bike, etc. Aside from that, this event gives me various new insights; from how the crowd's mood, to the real appeal of attending a cosplay event.
I think it's safe to say that most people at any cosplay event wouldn't judge you from your face, skin colour, body shape, etc. The only thing that they will give any concern is the costume and the intrinsicity of it. This should be pretty obvious but I did have thoughts of there would be people complaining how the cosplayer doesn't have the same appearance as the canonical character they're cosplaying as. I've been proven wrong, and I'm very glad that I did. Also I found it pretty rad how people would have a stronger spontaneous "unity" if they have the same or identical interest, even if it's really trivial like this. But yeah anyway, I think that's all of the schizo rambling I have regarding this event. I look forward to attend events like this. Thank you for reading yet another my blog, I've been Nebukadnezar Kaana Taqya Muzakkir Muhammad, now leave me alone.
