If you can’t fly then run,
If you can’t run then walk,
If you can’t walk then crawl,
But whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.
-Martin Luther King Jr.-
Stagnation is the enemy of progress. Sometimes we lose sight of our goals and feel like we’re not going anywhere, this feeling of futility when where the person we want to be seems so far away, our goals forever unattainable, out of reach. It’s easy to let yourself be consumed by these thoughts, to just lie down and give up on your dreams.
It’s important to remember how far you’ve come. Even though we’re not where we want to be, we’re far from where we used to be. All of the steps we’ve taken up the stairs of self-improvement. Do not let a bad day distract you from all of the progress you’ve made.
And it won’t be a smooth ride all the way to the top, you will stumble, and you will fall. Some form of failure is inevitable, that’s just a fact of life. What’s important is that we get back up and keep moving forward. Take the next step, no matter how small and insignificant it feels, because progress is progress. All of those little steps will accumulate into something much more significant. One day you’ll look back and realize how far you’ve come, how much you’ve grown as a person.
Keep your face toward the sunshine and the shadows will fall behind you.
-Walt Whitman-
