AES37 Being Human in an Ever-Changing World

The modern world is an uncertain place. With the rapid advancement in technology, the way we live our lives can be changed in a matter of weeks or even days. Things haven’t always been this way. Throughout the course of human history, innovation that changes the lifestyle of people only happens once every century. Multiple generations can pass without any change.

Now, even a couple of years difference in age will mean different values, wants, needs, priorities and mannerisms. This never happened before, at least not within such a small time-frame. With the worldwide economy flip-flopping, the endless tug-of-war in politics, major events and rapid development in science and technology rendering many jobs and skills obsolete. It can be very scary for someone who just took their first steps into the real world, to find a secure foothold.

You can never predict what’s going to change in a few years. Just recently our lives have changed massively due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we’ve all had to make major changes to our lifestyle, we’ve spent more than a year trapped in our own homes with lots of time to think. So it’s best to change the question,

What's not going to change?

With this mindset, you can make sure that whatever you spend your time mastering, it won’t be wasted because it transcends all limitations. For me personally. I’m working on developing my view on the human condition. There are still issues concerning human rights that plague our world. Our hopes and fears may change over time, but the basics of what makes us human beings should never be lost. That includes tackling issues like morality and values, politics and opinions, our ability to think and feel, to love and hate. Everything that makes humanity the most interesting  on Earth. Because in the end, things like this are what makes our lives worth living.

And if you’re lucky, you’ll find something worth fighting for. Do it right, and your time in this world surely will not be wasted.
