I want to keep this one short because it's just the commitment I've promised to my dear kakak, Kak Robert.
The thing which I want to build or change─but most certainly I want to build─in Sumba is perhaps the resolve and determination for me to blend in with the locals. OK, it might sound very simple, but I like to keep it that way; I don't want this commitment to go, well, uncommitted. Tangibly, I just need to talk more with the locals and ask what I desire (of course carefully).
It won't be so hard for me to do this because we've been given about 30 days for us to fulfill our commitment. My guess is that this won't be the only thing which improves within me, because frankly, Sumba is a place beyond my comfort zone. Depend on what you think, this could be a good thing or a bad thing, but for me, it's always a good thing; it's just that most of the time we're not willing to give ourselves the good thing.
To compensate this utterly short essay, I wrote a short poem of my commitment, it may not be the best but, let's hear it.
"Ad astra Sumba,
An odyssey beyond one's cosiness,
And it may not fulfill one's eros,
And it could upbring one's thanatos;
One thing for certain,
Is that we painfully aware that we're alive."
Forgive me for this rushed blog, I hope I could improve next time.
