Society’s Ideal Body: Is This Build-A-Bear?
This generation is OBSESSED with trying to achieve the ‘perfect body’ and many struggle with having a complicated relationship with food.
What is the ‘perfect body’ according to society’s standard of beauty?
Being skinny.
Some feel guilty after sneaking in a snack, feeling as if it was them vs. food. However, let’s start showing our bodies the respect that they deserve and give ourselves permission to enjoy life and eat food!
Diet Culture: Bad Food Vs. Good Food
There is no such thing!
Some might say some foods are not nutritious, but when looking at a nutrition fact, there are no components that read out zero.
To survive, our bodies require protein, fiber, sugar and even fat. It's obvious that certain foods have more protein/fat than others. People should, however, eat a range of meals in order to receive all the nutrients they require.
Body Shaming Is As Ineffective As It Is Cruel.
“too fat” “too muscular” “too skinny”
Nobody should be ashamed over their weight, clothing size, or body shape. Clothes are meant to fit onto you, not the other way around.
Eating a high-sugar or high-fat diet will not harm our health if we eat them in moderation. Too much of anything may be detrimental to our bodies, including 'good' foods and water.
Food Is Y̶o̶u̶r̶ ̶E̶n̶e̶m̶y̶ A Necessity
Food is simply a source of energy for your body to function. Your diet, weight, or waist size will NOT define your worth. It's difficult to feel good when you have to restrict and punish yourself to “look good."
Take some time to appreciate your body and treat it with appropriate self-care and nutrition:
Listen To Your Body!
Allow us to quit fixating on diets and calories and all that we eat. We should partake in our lives, and not let food control us. We should recall that we have a lot more to bring to the table the world than what we look like! You are astonishing, don't let society's idea of beauty make you feel differently. Bon Appétit!
